2. Soft-Touch Film

Soft-touch film adds a smooth, velvety feel to the exterior. It can be considered when the tactile experience is an important part of the packaging design.

Matte and soft-touch are not interchangeable terms. Matte describes how a surface reflects light, while soft-touch describes how it feels. Specify both requirements if you want a low-gloss appearance and a particular tactile finish.

3. Matte Varnish or Soft-Touch Coating for Gravure Printing

For gravure-printed packaging, matte varnish or soft-touch coating can be applied over a glossy film surface.

Selective application allows most of the pouch to receive the coating while the logo or other chosen elements remain glossy. The contrast comes from the coated background and the exposed glossy surface in the highlight areas.

Instead of leaving selected areas glossy when applying a matte coating, this process adds gloss to chosen areas of an already matte surface. The logo, product name or graphics can become the focal point.

Availability depends on the film, artwork and finishing requirements. Discuss spot UV at the quotation stage so it can be included in the production plan.

The best choice depends on more than appearance. Order quantity, artwork detail, material compatibility and finishing cost should also be considered.
